Manuel Antonio, Quepos is located on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Travelers have several options on arriving to this amazing area including short commuter flights, rental cars, bus service, private taxi, or shuttle bus transfers. Each transportation option offers up a series of advantages in terms of speed, price, and comfort, so choosing what is best for you depends a great deal on budget and taste. The easiest ways to get to Quepos/Manuel Antonio is either using one of the local airlines who run daily flights from San Jose to Quepos, or by renting a car and making the short 3.5 hour drive from San Jose. Below you will find the basic information for the two local airlines who fly as well as contact information for several of the more prominent rental car companies here in Costa Rica.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From the San Jose Airport:

Get on the Pan-American Highway (Highway 1) going north. Stay in the center lane and follow the sign toward San Ramon. After about 12 kilometers take the exit toward Atenas. This begins your drive through the mountains.

Around 42 kilometers you'll see a sign that says Manuel Antonio 111 km. Soon after that sign the road will turn right. (Do not go straight the “No Hay Paso” sign means it becomes a one-way road with traffic heading toward you.) Follow the turn to the right 1 block and turn left at the blue church.

At 49 kilometers you’ll see a stop light. You’re now in Orotina. 200 meters after the stop light on the right is Pollo Leña Yami. If you're hungry and want some of the best chicken in Costa Rica, stop and eat there.

500 meters past the stop light take the turn off on the right. Follow the sign toward Quepos/Manuel Antonio/Jaco.
Another 7 kilometers further you'll have another turn off. Continue to follow the signs toward Quepos/Manuel Antonio/Jaco. Jaco is about 92 kilometers from SJO Airport.

You will pass through Parrita at about the 134 kilometer mark. About 15 kilometers farther you’ll arrive in Quepos. When you come to the town you’ll drive over a small bridge and come to a fork in the road. Take the left fork (low road). When you see the sign Manuel Antonio Park 7 km turn left. Take this road about 4 kilometers until you come to the Latitude 9 office on the left.

SANSA / NATURE AIR

There are two national airline companies here who run daily commuter flights from San Jose to the Quepos airport. Flight schedules vary seasonally, but both airlines offer multiple daily flights beginning in the morning hours, with additional afternoon flights added during the high season.

Nature Air is another local airline who offers flights from a different airport located in downtown San Jose. Rates, flight times, are similar to those of Sansa, so the biggest factor in deciding is normally where you hotel in the city is located and availability.

CAR RENTALS

Other than flying, the most popular way of getting to Manuel Antonio and around Costa Rica is by way of a rental car.
